Jeff E. Schapiro has this update on a story earlier this week:
U.S. Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., is describing as “aggressive and quick” action by federal authorities cracking down on robocalls peddling allegedly fradulant auto warranties.
The Federal Trade Commission today asked a U.S. District Court in Illinois to shut down companies in Florida and Illinois that the FTC says is behind millions of calls that violate the federal “do-not-call” law.
Warner, who along with U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., announced the FTC investigation, says thousands of calls were made to Virginians.
“These automated calls are more than a mere nuisance to those consumers who’ve received them at home, at work and on their cell phones—which, depending on their cell plan, can end up costing their minutes and money,“ Warner said in a written statement.
