A whole bunch of debates

Republican gubernatorial nominee Bob McDonnell is calling for 10 debates with his rival, Democratic nominee Sen. R. Creigh Deeds.
McDonnell proposed a schedule of debates across the state, beginning with the July 25 Virginia Bar Association event taking place in Bath County—Deeds’ hometown. The final debate would be held at the University of Virginia’s Rotunda on Oct. 20.
No comment yet from the Deeds camp.
“Virginians are tired of sound bite campaigns. They want to know where the candidates stand on the issues of today. And they want to hear this directly from the candidates,“ McDonnell said in a release.
“This series of 10 gubernatorial debates statewide from July through October will reinvigorate political discourse in Virginia, and ensure that this race is marked by a serious discussion of the major issues facing the Commonwealth.“

It would be a great series if Mr. Deeds and Mr. McDonnell could have a series of ten debates in the style of Lincoln-Douglas.
Ten debates could be used to illuminate the citizens on the key issues. By focusing on a distinct issue for each debate, the citizens could become familiar with the finer aspects of the issue and hopefully hear contrasting ideas that focus on plausible solutions.
The RTD should survey Virginians and, along with input from your editorial board, develop a list of suggested topics for each debate.
Some topics that many would like to hear discussed, is what steps these candidates would take to ENHANCE our liberty?
Another area, would be, rebuilding our manufacturing base.
I would prefer to hear the debates focus on issues other than the usual sound-bite topics and address specific aspects of the Code of Virginia that the candidates would pledge to amend or repeal, that would improve the quality of life in both the near and long term.
